Her career included being a performer artist, designer and singer who broke down boundaries in the music industry. She was at once an American-Mexican traditional performer who merged both genres with a unique approach. She also provided excellent Tejano music to a mainstream public. As is often the case of a brilliant and genial star passes away far too early and unexpectedly, it shattered her growing profile. People mourned the entire extent of the potential that was not fully realized. To stop her successes from going unnoticed many of her fans in the past times have been motivated to do even more. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena has triggered a response within the Latino community which can be compared to the reactions in the wake of the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely popular Latino singer throughout North America. Her music transcended the boundaries of culture and inspired younger and more mature adults. Selena is a flamboyant and sexy performer. She's often referred to in the media as Latina Madonna. But, she's also an admired role model since off stage Selena has a family-oriented attitude and actively takes part in anti-drug initiatives.
